Announcing: Beryl Magoko & Jo Schmeiser at Femspectives 2020

We are delighted to announce two visiting filmmakers at this year’s festival!

Beryl Magoko, director of IN SEARCH… (Germany/Kenya 2018) and Jo Schmeiser, director of MOMENTS OF RESISTANCE (Austria 2019) will attend Femspectives 2020. We will host discussions with both filmmakers after their respective films.

This gives local audiences the chance to not only to see their fantastic films but also to meet the Magoko and Schmeiser to hear about what inspired them and their work!

Beryl Magoko

Beryl Magoko is a Kenyan filmmaker. Her first film THE CUT received several international awards. After her B.S. from KU in Uganda, she moved to Germany to improve her film making skills at the KHM in Cologne. IN SEARCH… is her diploma film. It won the “Audience Award – Leipziger Ring” in Leipzig and later, “Best Student Documentary” at International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA).

Filmography: FRED FISH FRYING (2010), THE CUT (2012), WATER FOR JANET AND FELICITAS (2013), IN SEARCH… (2018) and OTHERMOTHERS (in production).

Jo Schmeiser

Jo Schmeiser is an Austrian filmmaker, writer and artist. She explores the interfaces of art, film, theory and politics. Focusing on issues including racism, sexism and anti-Semitism, and reflecting critically on their form and structure, she often works collectively.
